NIKOMAX Splitters for FTTx networks

Split evenly!

FTTx is a broadband data transmission technology, which applies optical cables to provide a user with Internet, telephony and television services. The abbreviation stands for “Fiber To The X” where “X” signifies variable end terminal points, including houses, buildings, enterprises, etc. Depending on the end terminal point, FTTx is divided into four types: FTTN (Fiber to the Node), FTTC (Fiber to the Curb), FTTB (Fiber to the Building), and the most advanced FTTH (Fiber to the Home), which is built using PON (Passive optical network) technology.

What is PON's main advantage?

The answer is in the very name of it – there is no need for any active equipment. Therefore, not a router, but splitter acts as a traffic distributor. That’s why such method of connecting to the Internet is indeed very cost effective. And that’s why we in NIKOMAX are actively working on developing our own optical product line, including various PON solutions.

As for today we’d like to introduce to you NIKOMAX fiber-optic PLC (Planar Lightwave Circuit) splitters, which allow to divide light power evenly into required amount of output ports.

Fiber in our splitters comply with G.657.A1 standard and available in mini- and standard housings. Last one made from an impact-proof ABS plastic, so it can be used as a standalone device. On the other hand, metal mini-housing splitters – thanks to their compact size – can be integrated in optical modules and splice closures. And there is no need to worry, because patch cables in both devices got flame retardant LSZH-compound outer jacket:

  • standard housing splitters with 2 mm thick jacket;
  • mini-housing splitters with 0,9 mm thick jacket.

Here’s some part number decipher to help you choose the most suitable solution:

  • 2/4/8/16 - amount of outputs
  • A / U - fiber end polishing type: A - APC / U - UPC
  • B - standard plastic housing
  • M - metal mini-housing

As for the packaging – all NIKOMAX optical splitters are delivered individually in a plastic blister with additional technical information and testing results.
